Aspen + Cross | April 12, 2025
Their Story Began
Aspen and Cross first crossed paths during a game of pick-up volleyball with mutual friends. At the time, they were casual acquaintances, exchanging friendly hellos here and there. It wasn’t until the summer of 2022—playing beach volleyball on campus—that things really clicked. They reconnected as friends first, and over time, that friendship naturally turned into something more.
Cross was immediately drawn to Aspen, even as she showed up rocking a fresh haircut and a new nose ring. For Aspen, it was Cross’s kindness and steady confidence that stood out—especially in a competitive setting where people often let their guard down in the wrong ways. “He was a great beach partner and a perfect gentleman from the very beginning,” she shared.
Getting Ready
The day began in Sunnybrook’s beautiful getting-ready suites, where Aspen and her bridesmaids enjoyed a peaceful morning together. “I was nervous at first,” she said, “but as soon as I arrived, I felt this sense of peace I couldn’t really explain.” The upstairs bridal suite provided a quiet, light-filled space for Aspen to prepare with her girls, while Cross and his groomsmen shared laughs in the groom’s suite. The Sunnybrook team ensured everything ran smoothly from the start, keeping the couple focused on the moments that mattered most.
Ceremony
The calm energy continued into the ceremony, creating a sense of peace Aspen hadn’t expected. “We were anticipating nerves and chaos, but there was this unexpected calm throughout the whole day,” she said. Everyone—family, friends, and vendors—moved with intention, setting the tone for a day full of love. Set in the lush gardens beneath Sunnybrook’s signature pergola, the ceremony was intimate, heartfelt, and centered around the couple’s shared faith. Aspen walked down the aisle, escorted by her father Gui, to meet Cross with a smile full of anticipation. The ceremony included personal touches like private communion and a moment to turn and look out at the guests before being pronounced husband and wife. “To look out and smile at the people who traveled far and wide to be with us is something I’ll never forget,” exclaimed Aspen.
Cocktail Hour
Aspen and Cross’s warm, romantic color palette blended beautifully with the late-summer garden setting. The florals—designed by Grace at Enchanted Garden Designs—featured delicate textures and soft tones, creating a fresh, organic feel throughout both the ceremony and reception. “I was obsessed with my bouquet,” Aspen said. “It was light, airy, and so fun—I couldn’t stop waving it around all day.”
Touches of personality were found in every corner: hand-lettered mirrors by a close friend, thoughtful signage by Aspen’s mom, and intentional details that reflected their story. Each element felt joyful, rooted, and genuine—just like the couple themselves.
Food, Dancing, and All the Joy
The dinner menu struck a perfect balance between elevated and comforting, starting with passed spring appetizers and berry mint lemonade. Guests were served mashed potatoes, rolls, roasted asparagus, and multiple entrée options—something guests are still raving about. “We both love food, and we wanted something approachable but special,” Aspen shared.
The celebration continued with laughter, heartfelt speeches, and dancing under the lights. One especially meaningful moment came when the couple stepped aside for photos with the friends and mentors who supported them during dating and engagement—a sweet nod to the community that helped shape their journey.
Looking Back
When asked what stood out most from the day, Aspen didn’t hesitate. “I just remember feeling so covered—by prayer, by support, by love. Everyone who helped us get to that day, they were there. It felt really sacred.” One of her favorite memories? Seeing the people they love most smiling and enjoying themselves. “We were having a blast, but watching our guests have fun—that meant everything.” From start to finish, Aspen and Cross’s wedding was more than a beautiful celebration. It was a deeply personal expression of their love, their faith, and the joyful beginning of their forever.
